Emotions in Engineering
What does Emotions have to do with Engineering?
Engineers use equations to predict outcomes, design systems and make technical decisions. However, engineers will dedicate most of their time interacting with people with diverse backgrounds to solve problems where egos, biases, and emotions are involved.

Learning how to control your emotions and to take care of their overall physical and mental well-being is a key point to guide/inspire coworkers and succeed in decision making, problem-solving, and leadership roles.

This served as motivation to Professor Prado to develop a course for engineering students to develop emotional intelligence skills with a focus on engineering practice and leadership.

I have received an NSF Research Initiation for Engineering Formation (RIEF) grant to study the impact of the course on emotional intelligence and psychological capital of engineering students. This project is in collaboration with two colleagues, Sarah Wilson from University of Kentucky and Jason White from UC Davis.
